The boys and I are big fans of the Minions. So we were happy when we were asked to review the Aquabeads minions playset. It arrived on a wet weekend and seem like the perfect afternoon activity.
Our initial thoughts
The boys were excited to get all the items out of the box. The eldest was keen to get the beads in the tray in the exact way they appeared on the box. He was a little disappointed that he didn’t get all the colours from the picture. But that is because this was the dedicated set for the Minions, so it only contained the colours needed to make the characters.
Obviously if they like making them, I’ll buy the extra colours so he can make other items.
Disturbingly, both the boys commented on how much the beads looked like sweets. So close supervision was needed with the youngest. The good thing is the beads have a bitter coating on them, if they did put them in their mouths.
We got to work on making the guitar first as it seemed the easiest to tackle. It did require a lot of concentration and the youngest, soon left.
How we got on
I must admit I was surprised how tricky it was to make the designs. It is definitely an activity to do together than then just letting them make them on their own. Both the eldest and I got frustrated when we’d missed a bit out and trying to pick out the little pieces to adjust the pattern was fiddly.
However, he loved making the designs and he might ask for more beads on his Christmas list.
A perfect activity for a wet winter weekend.
