How to make felt gingerbread cookies with your Cricut

These felt gingerbread cookies look good enough to eat! Make these easy decorations for your Christmas tree that will last for years to come. Follow my simple guide for how to make them with your Cricut or other cutting machine.

Materials Needed:

  1. Felt sheets in various gingerbread-like colours (I chose two brown tones)
  2. Cricut or other cutting machine
  3. Gingerbread cookie templates
  4. Ribbon or twine for hanging
  5. Needle and thread
  6. Scissors
  7. HTV in white (for the icing decoration)

Step 1: Gather your materials
Ensure you have all the materials on hand before starting. Choose felt sheets in warm, gingerbread-inspired colours to give your cookies that authentic look.

Step 2: Download the gingerbread cookie template
Upload it to your Cricut Design Space for cutting.

Step 3: Set Up Your Cricut Machine
Place the chosen felt sheets on the cutting mat, ensuring they are securely attached. Load the mat into your Cricut machine, use the rotary cutter blade and follow the on-screen prompts to cut out the gingerbread shapes. Cut two felt pieces for each shape. (Alternatively you can cut out the felt shapes by hand)

Step 4: Weed and Assemble
Carefully remove the felt shapes from the cutting mat.

Cut the HTV designs (remembering to mirror) and weed.

Arrange the pieces to create your gingerbread cookie. Press the HTV to one of the felt shapes.

Step 7: Create a Hanging Loop
Attach a ribbon or twine to the top of each gingerbread cookie to create a hanging loop. This step is crucial if you plan to use these charming creations as ornaments or garlands.

Step 7: Stitch together
Layer the back piece over the hanging loop and stitch using either a running stitch or blanket stitch to join the felt shapes together.

Step 8: Display and Enjoy!
Find the perfect spot to showcase your handcrafted felt gingerbread cookies. Whether on the Christmas tree, mantelpiece, or as part of a festive wreath, these charming creations are sure to spread joy.
