Free Printable DMC Floss Checklist: Organise Your Thread Stash *updated

*post and printable updated to include the new thread colours 1-35! As an avid cross stitcher, I understand the importance of staying organised. Over time, I’ve accumulated a big collection of DMC floss, and keeping track of what I have versus what I need has been a bit of a challenge. That’s why I created a free printable DMC floss checklist. This handy tool can help you manage your thread stash and serve as a convenient shopping list. Let me explain how this checklist can make your cross stitching life a little easier.

*Please note, this is the current colour list and does not include discontinued colours. For example: 504 replaced with 3813, 731 replaced with 732, 776 replaced with 3326, 781 replaced with 782, 806 replaced with 3760. For a full list of discontinued colours and replacements check out my post here.

Why Use a DMC Floss Checklist?

Cross stitch projects often require a variety of thread colors, and it’s easy to lose track of what’s in your collection. Running out of a specific color in the middle of a project can be frustrating, especially if it means delaying your progress until you can restock. On the flip side, buying duplicates wastes money and space.

My checklist solves these problems by providing a full list of all the available DMC floss colours. You can mark off the threads you own, making it simple to see at a glance which colours you need to purchase. Whether you’re organizing your stash at home or planning a shopping trip, this checklist is an invaluable resource.

How to Use the DMC Floss Checklist

The checklist is designed to be user-friendly. Each DMC colour number has a small box where you can check off the threads you have. Here are a few ways to utilize the checklist:

1. Inventory Your Current Stash

Start by going through your existing collection of DMC floss. As you identify each color, check it off on the checklist. This initial inventory process might take a bit of time, but it’s worth the effort. Once completed, you’ll have a clear picture of what you own.

2. Plan Your Projects

Before starting a new project, use the checklist to determine which colors you need. Refer to the pattern requirements and cross-reference with your checklist. Mark any colors you don’t have so you can add them to your shopping list.

3. Shopping List

Take the checklist with you when you go shopping for supplies. The checked boxes show what you already own, so you can avoid buying duplicates. For colors you need, simply look for the unchecked boxes.

4. Update Regularly

After each project or shopping trip, update the checklist. Keeping it current will save you time and help maintain an organized stash.

Benefits of the DMC Floss Checklist

Saves Time

By having an up-to-date checklist, you eliminate the need to dig through your collection every time you start a new project. It’s all laid out for you, making the preparation phase much quicker.

Reduces Waste

Knowing exactly what you have prevents you from buying unnecessary duplicates. This is not only cost-effective but also saves storage space.

Enhances Organization

An organized stash makes the cross stitching process smoother and more enjoyable. Everything has its place, and you can easily find the colors you need.

Convenient Reference

Having a physical list you can refer to is incredibly handy. Whether you’re at home or in a craft store, you have a reliable reference that helps you make informed decisions.

  18. Hi there,
I was trying to use this to figure out what threads I needed to order and I’m only up to 834, and have found 5 different threads that are in my collection but are missing from the checklist. I’m now going to find another checklist as I’m unsure how many are actually missing. So far 504, 731, 776, 781 and 806 are missing. But again, I’m calling it quits at this point and finding another checklist.

    1. Hi, 504 was replaced with 3813, 731 was replaced with 732, 776 was replaced with 3326, 781 was replaced with 782, and 806 was replaced with 3760. My checklist is the most current list of numbers, it does not include discontinued colours.
