What You’ll Need

  • Felt sheets in rainbow colours
  • Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) in icing colour (choose white, cream or lilac)
  • Free Gingerbread Men Collection SVG (sign up below to download)
  • Cutting machine (e.g., Loklik, Cricut, or Silhouette)
  • HTV-compatible heat press or iron
  • Hole punch
  • Baker’s twine
  • Scissors

Step 1: Cut the Felt Shapes

Begin by cutting luggage label shapes from your felt sheets. These will form the base of your garland. Cut a rectangle roughly 2 x 4 inches. Then snip the top corners off at an angle to get the luggage label shape.

Step 2: Prepare the HTV Designs

Download the Gingerbread Men Collection SVG (exclusive to subscribers) and load it into your cutting machine software. Cut out the gingerbread men and other sugar cookie-inspired shapes using HTV in your chosen colour.

Step 3: Apply the HTV to Felt

Position the HTV designs on the front of the felt shapes. Use your heat press to apply the designs, following the HTV manufacturer’s instructions. Once pressed, peel off the carrier sheet to reveal the design.

Step 4: Punch Holes for Stringing

Punch two evenly spaced holes at the top of each felt piece. Make sure the holes are large enough for the baker’s twine to pass through but not too close to the edge.

Step 5: String the Garland

Thread your baker’s twine through the holes, arranging the felt pieces in your preferred order. Alternate colours to create a beautiful rainbow effect. Adjust the spacing between the shapes as needed.

Step 6: Hang and Enjoy!

Your rainbow felt gingerbread man garland is now ready to display! Hang it across a mantelpiece, wall, or window to add a pop of festive charm.
