Easy DIY toadstool pincushion
You would never guess that this easy DIY toadstool pincushion was once a ribbon reel destined for the recycling. With some felt and some basic tools, you can make a fun mushroom decoration that also doubles as a handy place to store your needles and pins!

To make the toadstool pincushion you will need:
Tools and Materials
- Empty ribbon reel
- Felt in three colours – red, green, and white
- Some stuffing
- Glue
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Pencil
How to make the mushroom pincushion
- First, using a pencil draw around the base of your ribbon reel onto your green felt and cut out.
- Fold you green circle in half and make a small snip in the centre towards the outer egde
- Repeat this process, folding in a different direction a couple of times. So that you star of snips in the center of your circle. Cut from the edge, to one of those snips.
- Wrap white felt around the central tube of your ribbon reel and mark the size it needs to be to wrap and join without overlapping.
- Cut the white felt to size and glue into posiion on the centre of your reel.
- Curl the green felt around the base and position the snipped triangles up the centre, to look like grass. Glue in place.
- Measure the top circle of you ribbon reel and find a larger object such as saucer to draw around onto your red felt.
- Cut out the red circle.
- Cut small pieces of white felt, these can be circles or more random shapes for a more natural look and glue onto your red circle. Allow to dry before the next step
- Stitch a small running stitch around the edge of your red circle, draw the thread together slightly before adding a ball of stuffing inside. Position it on top of your reel and pull the thread tight, securing it with a knot.
- Now your pincushion is complete, you can add it to a woodland display or use it to keep your pins safe in your sewing space.
