Free SVG to make laser cut felt coasters for cross stitch and embroidery

I love embroidery and I love laser cutting. It’s even better when I can combine the two! Grab this Free SVG to make laser cut felt coasters for cross stitch and embroidery

What you’ll need

  • Thick felt (I used a firm felt sheet around 3mm thick)
  • Mr Beam Dreamcut [x] laser cutter
  • Embroidery thread and needle
  • Small sharp scissors

Watch me make one

Here’s a quick video showing the laser cutting process in action:

The coaster cuts cleanly from felt and leaves a neat grid of holes that are perfect for stitching.

Cutting the coaster

Load the SVG file into Beam OS and place your felt in the machine. Set the height of the material. I used the Mr Beam Dreamcut [x] with settings optimised for thick felt, which gave a crisp, clean finish without burning the edges.

💡 Tip: Always do a test cut to fine-tune your depth and make sure the holes are clean.

Time to stitch

Once your coaster is cut, grab your needle and floss. You can keep it simple with a monogram or try a small motif like a heart, flower, or initial.

The holes are spaced evenly forming a 21 x 21 grid, so it’s easy to adapt tiny cross stitch charts. I used 2 strands of embroidery thread and the loop start for a neater finish on the back. You can experiment with different thicknesses depending on the look you want.
