As the new year draws near, what better way to keep track of the changing seasons and our environment than with a creative and practical project? Today I'm sharing a free cross stitch pattern for a temperature tracker. I'd love for you to join me in this stitch as long for the year.
The chart comes in two versions, one for 365 days and one for a leap year with 366 days.

How does a temperature tracker work?
- Record your daily average temperature for each day of the year using the sheet included with the pattern. Use the temperature values sheet (also included) to covert the temperature into it’s DMC colour.
- Then stitch each daily segment following the cross stitch pattern. The days are vertical.
- Each month is split into the correct amount of days. (Please note it’s a leap year for 2024 so there are 29 days in February)
- Adjust the chart if you are stitching for a different year.
- The colours on the chart are purely so you can see the day splits, do not stitch those, swap them for the colours indicated by your temperature recordings.

Materials Needed:
Before diving into the stitching, gather the following materials:
- Aida fabric (14-count is recommended for easy stitching)
- Embroidery hoop
- DMC Embroidery floss
- Size 24 embroidery needle
- Scissors
- Pattern, temperature values sheet, temperature tracker sheet (download all three as one PDF at the bottom of this post)

Pattern dimensions
- Grid Size: 141W x 73H
- Design Area: 9.93" x 5.07" (139 x 71 stitches)
Instructions:
- Download the Pattern
- record the average temperatures each day.
- Covert to DMC floss colours
- Prepare Your Fabric:
Cut your Aida fabric to the desired size, leaving some extra space around the edges to make framing easier. Secure the fabric in the embroidery hoop. - Thread Your Needle:
Choose the first colour of embroidery floss according to your recordings. Thread your needle and use the loop method to secure the end. - Start Stitching:
Begin stitching according to the pattern, following the colours and symbols provided. You may want to grid your fabric so you can position the design correctly on your fabric. - Temperature Coding:
Use different colours to represent temperature ranges. See the reference sheet included with the pattern to covert the temps. - Frame and Display:
Once you've completed your temperature tracker, remove it from the hoop and trim any excess fabric. Consider framing it or check out my 35 Alternatives to framing cross stitch.
