One of my mum’s favourite gifts is always a home baked cake. This year I plan to make it extra special with the help of my M1 xTool See how to make a Mothers day cake topper.

To make the Mothers day cake topper I used my M1 xTool, but this would work on any laser cutter or a cricut machine if you wanted to cut it from wood instead of acyrilic.

I chose red glossy acrylic in 3mm, to top my classic Victoria sponge cake. You can find the recipe on my food site eatcartwright.com

How to create a fun Mothers day cake topper from acrylic using a laser cutter

3mm red glossy acrylic

M1 xTool laser cutter

Instructions

First download the Mothers day cake topper file from design bundles
Upload the the design to your laser cutters design space and resize to suit your needs. Be careful not to go to small as it will be difficult to cut some of the intricate design if made too small.
Remove the film from your acyricl. You can choose to leave the bottom layer on to protect it from debris, but it is not necessary.
Set your laser cutter for cutting 3mm acrylic and adjust for the colour preference. I choose red glossy.
Set up the extraction, either with a air filter or your pipe out of a window. (Cutting acrylic is smelly!)
Then set your laser cutter to cut.
Once it's cut, remove the backing film if you chose to leave it on and give it a wipe over to remove any residue.
Then all you need to do is bake your mum a cake!
