What is Coloured Pencil Week 2025?

If you’ve ever thought ‘I’m not arty’ or you’ve gazed in wonder at wildlife art and thought how do they get it so life like? Then coloured pencil week 2025 could be for you! Coming this May is a week-long online event that’s all about bringing colour, calm, and creativity into your life — and you don’t need any expensive materials or an art school background to take part.

Coloured Pencil Week 2025 (or CPW25) is hosted by the Bonny Snowdon Academy, runs from 9th–16th May. It aims to be a joyful celebration of art, animals, and everything coloured pencil. It’s all online, accessible for all, and just £10 for the whole week.

Nature, colour, and creativity

The theme for this year is wildlife, and it’s perfect for those who love the natural world. Over the course of the week, you’ll be guided through drawing three beautiful creatures. A hare, an owl, a fawn (and its mother). The sessions are designed to build your skills slowly, step by step. So you don’t need to be an experienced artist to take part and enjoy it. As part of the course, you’ll also get guidance on tools, preparation, proportion and how to layer colour.

Taught in a calm and supportive way. With demonstrations and guidance, you can work at your own pace. You can revisit the sessions later, and make the most of the experience in a way that suits you. With a supportive community of like minded artists, you’ll be encouraged all the way along your creative journey, which will lead to three beautiful pieces of art work at the end of the week.

A brilliant event for beginners and beyond

CPW25 welcomes everyone. Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time in years, or you’re already happily scribbling away at your sketchbook, there’s something here to spark your creativity.

You don’t need to buy loads of new supplies. Just the basics will do and you certainly don’t need to be “good at drawing” to enjoy the process. So many people tell themselves they aren’t arty, but from experience as a teacher for 16 years, I know that’s rarely true. It’s often just a case of having the right encouragement at the right time.

A mindful, joyful way to be creative

Creativity like this isn’t just good for developing a skill, it’s good for the soul. And when it comes with a welcoming community and structured guidance, it’s even better. Sitting down with a pencil in hand, really looking at the texture of fur or feathers, and focusing on the shapes and shadows, it’s a brilliant way to switch off the noise and take some time for yourself.

Art is one of the best forms of mindfulness and my go to when I need to relax and unwind.
