How to Do Diamond Painting:
You may have already experienced diamond painting using a kit, but did you know you can make your own. It is a delightful and therapeutic craft that involves placing small, shiny resin diamonds onto a coded adhesive canvas. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started making diy versions:
Gather Your Materials:
- Diamond painting pattern (printed from the bottom of this post)
- Double sided sticky paper
- scissors
- Pencil
- Diamond drills (coloured resin diamonds)
- Diamond applicator tool
- Wax or putty for the applicator
- Sorting trays or containers
Prepare Your Workspace
Find a clean, well-lit, and comfortable space to work. Lay out your materials on a flat surface and organize your diamond drills in the sorting trays. Print out the pattern and pick your chosen motif.
Trim it down to just the coloured pattern.
Place onto the double sided sticky paper and draw around it and cut out.
You will have a mirror image of your design. Peel off the back of the sticky paper and lay over the right side of your design.
This will form the sticky surface for you to apply the dots to.
Understand the Symbols
Examine the canvas and familiarise yourself with the symbols or numbers assigned to each colour. This coding corresponds to the different shades of diamond drills in your kit.
Apply Adhesive to the Applicator
Place a small amount of wax or putty into the tip of the diamond applicator. This helps the diamonds stick to the applicator.
Start Placing Diamonds:
- Peel back a small section of the protective film on the canvas to expose the adhesive.
- Use the applicator to pick up a diamond drill.
- Match the diamond to the corresponding symbol or number on the canvas and gently press it onto the adhesive.
Work in Sections:
Start with one colour at a time and work in small sections to avoid accidentally smudging the adhesive or misplacing diamonds.
Finishing Touches
- Once you’ve completed the entire canvas, press down gently on the diamonds to ensure they are securely attached.
- Use your motif for Christmas cards, gift tags for for fun place settings.
