Classic Festive Cocktails

Ad

It has to be said I’m not a big drinker. But at times of festivity I like to have a glass of something. Fruity, sparkly and sweet things are my favourites. Which is why I do love a cocktail! These are my favourite classic festive cocktails.

5 classic festive cocktails

Snowball

This is my favourite cocktail at Christmas and it tastes so sweet that you’ll hardly know your drinking something alcoholic. So be warned!

You will need:

  • Advocaat
  • Lemonade
  • Lime juice
  • Cocktail cherries and lime to serve.

To make a snowball

Add two measures of Advocaat, half a limed juiced and a handful of ice to the cocktail shaker.

Shake and stain into a highball glass

Top with chilled lemonade.

Serve with a slice of lime and a cocktail cherry on a stick.

Egg nog

The bbc good food website has a fab egg nog recipe.

Eggnog
The ready-made supermarket versions of egg nog have given it a bad press, but this deliciously creamy recipe is a little taste of Christmas history. George Washington, the first American president, even made his own egg nog, and is very clear about ageing it for a few days to let the flavour mellow.

Spiced Cider

This is a fab recipe and perfect for a warm up after getting cold on bonfire night.

Incredible mulled cider | Jamie Oliver
Make your own spicy mulled cider with cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise and a vanilla pod.

Cosmopolitan

Cranberries scream Christmas so I had to include a cosmopolitan. It’s the perfect coktail to make in the coktail shaker and really impress your guests.

You will need:

  • 25ml cranberry juice
  • 25ml vodka
  • 15ml orange liqueur
  • Half a lime juiced
  • Ice cubes

Place the cranberry juice, vodka, orange liqueur and lime juice into the cocktail shaker along with a handful of ice cubes. Shake and strain into your glass.

To garnish, add a twist of lime.

Bucks fizz

This requires everything to be nice and chilled. Perfect for Christmas Morning.

You will need

Get your glasses ready and fill with one third chilled orange juice, top with chilled Champagne and serve immediately.
