DIY Easter egg suncatcher + free templates

This DIY Easter egg suncatcher is a great Springtime craft. Quick and easy to make and endlessly customisable. Download the free templates in PDF and SVG format (for cutting machines) at the bottom of this post.

To make the DIY Easter egg suncatcher you will need:

Version 1

  • Coloured card
  • Tracing paper
  • Marker pens
  • Glue
  • Template
  • scissors, craft knife or cutting machine

Version 2

How to make your Spring suncatcher

Version 1

  1. Using the template, cut out the Easter egg using scissors / craft knife or cutting machine
  2. Glue around the outside of the egg and place it onto tracing paper
  3. Coloured tracing paper on the back of the egg
  4. Trim the tracing paper down to match the egg shape
  5. (optional – cut a second egg from card and glue to the reverse of the tracing paper, sandwiching a ribbon between to hang the Easter egg with)

Version 2

  1. Using the template, cut out the Easter egg using scissors / craft knife or cutting machine
  2. Cut contact paper slightly larger than your egg
  3. tear small pieces of tissue paper and apply them to the contact paper, leaving a slight boarder so as to be able to attach it to the card egg.
  4. Stitch the decorated contact paper to the Easter egg.
  5. Use a small piece of tape or tack to attach it to the window to let the sun shine through
