DIY Scissors Fob Tutorial
Are you always losing your embroidery scissors down the sofa? A DIY scissors fob is the perfect solution! Not only does it make your scissors easier to find, but it also adds a personal touch to your crafting tools. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a charming watermelon-themed cross stitch scissors fob using a free pattern.

What is a Scissors Fob?
A scissors fob is a small, decorative charm attached to the handle of your embroidery scissors. It helps you keep track of your scissors and prevents them from getting lost under piles of fabric or thread. Plus, it makes a lovely handmade addition to your crafting kit!
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Aida cloth (14-count works well)
- Embroidery floss in the recommended colours (check the pattern)
- Cross stitch needle
- Scissors
- Stuffing (fiberfill or ORTS)
- Cotton fabric for the back
- Strong thread or cord for the loop
- Beads

Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Stitch the Watermelon Design
Using the free pattern, stitch your watermelon slice onto Aida fabric. This cute design features a kawaii-style watermelon, perfect for adding a fun touch to your scissors fob.
2. Cut and Prepare the Fabric
Once your cross stitch is complete, cut around the stitched design, leaving a small seam allowance. Cut a matching piece of cotton fabric for the back of the fob.

3. Assemble the Fob
Place the stitched piece and backing fabric together, wrong sides facing.

Machine or hand stitch around the edges, leaving a small gap for stuffing.

Turn right sides out

Lightly stuff the fob to give it a plump, cushioned feel.

Close the gap with whip or ladder stitch.
4. Attach the Hanging Loop and beads
Using a strong thread or cord, tie a knot at the end and add your beads, push the needle up through the middle of the fob, and add more beads at the top, before knotting, Then either create a loop to secure to your scissors or simple knot it onto them.
