DIY stamped cross stitch fabric with laser engraving
If your a regular reader here at craftcartwright you’ll know I love counted cross stitch. But sometimes I like the simplicity of a stamped pattern. However I love to design my own things, so I wanted to make my own custom stamped cross stitch. And now I’ll show you all how to make your own stamped cross stitch fabric with laser engraving too!

For this project I used my Mr Beam dreamcut [s] laser cutter and engraver. I do also have a m1 xTool but have yet to try fabrics with it.
Materials needed
To make your own stamped cross stitch fabric with laser engraving you will need:
- calico fabric medium weight
- svg file (download the crow from the bottom of the post)
- Laser engraver
How to make your own stamped cross stitch fabric with laser engraving
- First download the free svg file at the bottom of this post
- Upload the file to your laser cutters software.
- Cut fabric to size required and ensure it is smooth and free of wrinkles
- Lay fabric in laser cutter
- Size the design for your fabric.
- Set laser cutter to engrave the design on cotton fabric. (In my Mr Beam this setting is already a option, but you may have to play around in the settings if you are using a different laser cutter such as a Glowforge)
- Set it to engrave.
- You are looking for the design to be fairly light, so that you dont notice the stamped design once stitched.

- Once it’s engraved, it’s ready to stitch.
- Place your fabric in an embroidery hoop and adjust until the fabric is taut. Then stitch with two strand of DMC 310. Ensuring all the under arm stitches of the crosses are in the same direction, then go over with the top arm of the stitches.
