DIY yarn faux fairy lights
This year I’m going all out for a colourful Christmas and these DIY yarn faux fairy lights are the perfect decoration to start with! Super simple to make and great fun.
Tools and materials
To make the yarn fairy lights you will need:
- Grey flecked ball of yarn
- French knitter
- Coloured yarns for the lights
- Polystyrene eggs
- Grey felt
- Flexible gold coloured wire
- Pliers
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Felting needle
- Sewing needle
- Grey thread
How to make the yarn faux fairy lights
First you will need to create the cord for your fairy lights, do this by French knitting a couple of meters (or as much as you want)
Once you have knitted your cord, use a sewing needle to secure the ends and tuck the tail back inside the cord.
Wrap coloured yarn around your egg and needle felt it to secure. You can use a ball of yarn or scraps to do this.
Create at least 10 coloured fairy lights and try to have a range of colours.
Cut 1 inch lengths of the wire and fold in half to make the hanging loops
Cut 1 cm strips of grey felt from a a4 sheet for as many lights as you have made.
Glue the hanging loop to the end of the felt and then roll up and glue to secure.
Glue the felt topper to the light.
Spread you faux lights along your cord and use a sewing needle and grey thread to stitch them on to the cord.
