Free Quilling Board Laser Cut File

I am always interested in learning new crafts but often don’t want to spend money on new equipment before I know if I’ll love it or not. So when saw pictures of beautiful quilling appearing on my feed. I decided to make my own quilling board. If you also fancy having a go at this fun paper craft, grab the free laser cut file for my quilling board at the bottom of this post.

What is quilling?

Quilling, also known as paper filigree, involves rolling and shaping narrow strips of paper to create intricate designs.

Equipment Needed for Quilling

Before you start your quilling adventure, gather these essential tools:

  1. Quilling Paper Strips: You can buy these pre-cut and they come in various colours. The standard size for a quilling strip is 3mm wide. Wanting to not buy any new materials for my first go, I discovered my paper shredder cuts the right sized strip.
  2. Quilling Tool: A simple tool with a slotted or needle end to help you roll and shape the paper strips. If you don’t have one of these you can use a pair of tweezers or a cocktail stick to help start you off rolling the shapes.
  3. Quilling Board: This board provides a convenient surface for arranging and shaping your quilled pieces. And, lucky for you, we’re offering a free laser cut file to create your own quilling board. (Don’t have a laser cutter and want a board? Buy one here.)
  4. Craft Glue: To secure the ends of your quilled shapes and assemble your final masterpiece.

How to Quill

  1. Select Your Design: Choose a design for your quilling project. From flowers to animals, the possibilities are endless.
  2. Rolling: Using your quilling tool, roll the paper strip tightly from one end. Release the coil, and you’ll have a basic quilled shape.
  3. Shaping: Experiment with shaping your quilled coils into different forms. Pinch, bend, and meld using the board to create the desired shapes for your design.
  4. Gluing: Apply a small amount of craft glue to the end of the paper strip and secure it to prevent unravelling.

What Can You Make from Quilling?

The versatility of quilling allows you to create an array of beautiful items, including:

  • Greeting Cards: Add a personalized touch to your greetings with quilled designs.
  • Jewellery: Craft unique earrings, pendants, and bracelets with your quilled creations.
  • Home Décor: Frame your quilled designs for charming wall art or embellish everyday items like photo frames and mirrors.
  • 3D Sculptures: Advance your skills to create intricate 3D sculptures, bringing your quilled art to life.
