How to Make a DIY Felt Pocket Hug
Sometimes we could all use a little extra comfort, and a pocket hug is a sweet and thoughtful way to remind someone that you’re thinking of them, even from afar. This DIY felt pocket hug tutorial is a quick and easy craft that can be customized to make it even more personal. Plus, I’ve included a free SVG file with adorable faces that you can use to give your pocket hugs a little character!

Materials Needed:
- Felt sheets in colors of your choice
- Scissors
- Embroidery thread (to match or contrast with your felt)
- Needle
- HTV (heat transfer vinyl)
- Iron or heat press
- Cutting machine
- My free SVG file with cute faces (available for download at the bottom of this post)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Cut Out Your Felt Shapes
To begin, cut two identical shapes from your felt. The shapes can be anything you like—a heart, circle, star, or even a random organic shape that fits easily in your hand. Aim for something small and portable, around 5–7 cm wide, so it’s easy to slip into a pocket or bag.
Step 2: Apply the Face Design with HTV
Once your felt shapes are ready, it’s time to add a cute face! Download the free SVG file linked below, and use your cutting machine to cut the face from HTV. Adjust the size to fit your felt shape, but I recommend keeping the face design under 5 cm for best results.
To apply the HTV, position it on the front of one felt piece, then press it using an iron or heat press according to your HTV’s instructions. Be careful not to use too much heat or pressure, as felt can sometimes flatten or warp.
Step 3: Blanket Stitch the Shapes Together
Now, take your second felt piece and stack it behind the first one with the HTV face. Thread your needle with embroidery thread, and use a blanket stitch to sew around the edges of the shapes, joining them together. Leave a small opening so you can add a little stuffing if you’d like to make the pocket hug more plush, then stitch it closed.

Step 4: Add a Personal Touch (Optional)
To make your pocket hug even more special, consider adding a small note or a tag that says “Sending a hug” or “Keep me close” before giving it to someone. You could also make a set of these to share with friends or family!
