How to Make a Felt Dove Christmas Decoration + Free SVG Cut File
If you’re looking for quick and easy craft project for Christmas, this felt dove decoration is the perfect choice. With my free dove SVG cut file, you can easily make a beautiful ornament to adorn your tree or give as a thoughtful handmade gift.
What You’ll Need:
- My free dove SVG cut file (download link below)
- Two pieces of grey felt (or any colour of your choice)
- Ribbon for a hanging loop
- Embroidery thread for blanket stitching
- Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
- Cutting machine (e.g., Cricut or Loklik Crafter)
- Iron or HTV heat press
- Toy stuffing
- Pins, hand sewing needle and scissors
Steps to Make Your Felt Dove Decoration:
- Prepare the HTV Design:
- Use a cutting machine to cut out the dove design from HTV using the free SVG file. Remember to mirror the design before cutting.
- Apply the HTV to Felt:
- Position the HTV design onto one piece of grey felt.
- Use an iron or heat press to transfer the HTV onto the felt, following the manufacturer’s instructions. I pressed at 280f for 15 seconds. Let it cool before peeling off the backing.
- Assemble the Decoration:
- Pin the second piece of grey felt behind the HTV-applied felt.
- Use scissors to trim the edges of the felt, leaving a small border around the dove design
- Blanket Stitch the Edges:
- Insert a loop of blue ribbon between the two felt pieces at the top for hanging.
- Secure the two felt pieces together using a blue blanket stitch
- Before closing add a small about of toy stuffing.
Display Your Dove Decoration:
Hang your felt dove on your Christmas tree, a doorknob, or even use it as a unique gift tag for presents.
