A guide to making cards for the festive season
As the weather starts to get colder, more and more people will be making plans for the festive season. If you’ve always wanted to make handmade cards for your friends and family but are usually too late, this is the perfect time to start planning. But just because you love crafts doesn’t mean getting started with making cards is easy. After all, the holiday season means sending out season’s greetings to a wider circle of people than you’d usually have contact with. This means making a whole lot of cards! Luckily, this blog has lots of tips and tricks you can use to make this year’s cards extra special.

Get a printer
Making every card by hand is just a dream for most people. If your circle of family and friends just keeps getting bigger, a printer will help you to make something for everyone without giving up all your free time in the process. Remember to stock up on hp 301 ink cartridges before you get started, otherwise you might run out halfway through.
You have lots of options when it comes to printing cards. You could scan in a design you’ve painted and print it onto some luxury paper or you could print off images and stick them onto card. It all depends on the amount of time you have and the type of crafts you love doing.
Personalise, but not too much
You need to personalise the cards you send out to make the recipient feel special, but creating a unique card for everyone is simply not doable. The best way to personalise your cards is by handwriting a unique message inside. It’s easier to have the same design on the front for multiple people – especially if they live in different households.
Don’t forget about costs
It’s easy to get swept up in making cards and forget all about how much money it’s going to cost. While making the cards might not be too expensive, you need to factor in postage costs as well if you’re going to be sending the cards to family and friends who live far away. Try to hand out as many cards as you can to the people you know you’re going to meet before the holidays start.
What about envelopes?
This one stumps a lot of people. Traditional greetings cards come with an envelope when you buy them in the shop, but your handmade cards are going to need them from somewhere else. It’s best to think about envelopes before you’ve made your cards because you’ll need to consider size. Sometimes it’s tricky to find envelopes to suit the cards you’ve made, so try to get both of these steps out of the way at the same time. You may even need to buy rigid envelopes to stop your cards from bending when you ship them.
Making cards for the festive season is an incredibly fun DIY, but make sure you do all the planning before you get stuck in.
