How to be a more organised blogger
If you ever want to make your blog a success. In whatever terms that means to you. Whether it is money or recognition. You need to be organised. No one makes it with a haphazard attitude. So one of my goals is to be a more organised blogger this year.
So how am I going to be a organised blogger?
I already feel I am pretty well organised person, I don’t think you can be a teacher without being organised. So these are my top tips for what is working for me.
Use a content calendar.
I have a calendar plugin on my blog and have found it to be the most invaluable tool. When I think of an idea I can just add the title to a draft post and then move them around the calendar to suit the season or occasion. I am a very visual person and I love seeing all the titles mapped out. It has meant I have planned ALL my content for every Monday, Wednesday and Friday posts for the whole year. So far I’m sticking to my planning, so it must be working.
Use a planner
Along with the content calendar, I also use a planner.
I love it, because I’m a list writer. I always have it by the side of me when I’m working. Jotting ideas, to do lists and key info on it. Then cross things off when I’m done. The massive plus of it as well is. I can work on my blog offline anywhere, anytime. Waiting in the cars or pick up the kids or slobbing on the sofa. I flick through it and read what I’m currently working on and feel on top of it all.
Sort your Photos.
With any blogger they will tell you that images are hugely important to their blog and their social media. So you will inevitably find yourself with lots of blogging photos as well as all the holiday and Christmas snaps. You can soon find yourself drowning in a digital sea of image files.

I resolved to tackle my problem with badly stored and incorrectly filed photos, by trying out ImageRanger which is photo organiser software. A bit like Google Picasa it helps me manage my huge photo archive.
The first thing I did was use the tool to identify duplicate images. I had over 1000 stored in my files! Now I’ve cleaned up the space, I’m setting up a more organised filing system so I can quicker access my stock photos for example. Sorting them by tag, rating or even searching for ones with faces has become so much easier.
Set a schedule.
My final tip for being a more organised blogger would be to set yourself a workable schedule. It’s all well and good saying you’ll post every other day but if you realistically can’t stick to it you’ll feel rubbish in the long run. For me, I plan to post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Leaving the weekends free to spend with the boys and if extra work pops up I can slot those posts in on the spare days.

Great tips. I try and keep a list of topics I want to write about as well as any reviews or paid posts I need to write. For paid stuff I keep a spreadsheet to track everything too. #coolmumclub
I have a post saved that has a good deal of linkys organized by day. Makes it easy to link up. I am still pretty new and need traffic!

A great list of tips! I too use a planner, but I’ve never had a content calendar – I’d love one like the one you describe but my blog is on Blogger so I’m not sure I can get one. 🙁 However, I do use my planner and my calendar on my phone. 🙂

Scheduling is key for me! Otherwise I would never get a post done! I also prioritize “outside” jobs – guest posts, collaborate posts, etc.

A really helpful post – especially for new bloggers. For me the editorial calendar was an absolute game changer. I couldn’t have carried on typing and hitting publish…it helps me plan, work efficiently and spread out work.
The only thing I’d add is to take regular blog breaks…all this efficiency is exhausting! 😉

Great tips. I am in the process of sorting my content calendar. Wonder what took me so long to make one. #ablogginggoodtime
These certainly are good tips. #ablogginggoodtime
Thank you
I must be one of the most disorganised bloggers I believe. I even took Any from you baby me mummy’s courses and I still can not seem to motivate organisation in myself. Even at university I was so disorganised. I write my posts when the mood strikes, I remember to write, post and comment, share on both the link ups I do, so I guess that is something!???? But I never plan ahead on what to write. Maybe one day, your tips are awesome I just need to follow them. Thanks for being part of our linky #ablogginggoodtime
Super tips Ruth. Scheduling works so well; adds order to the mind.
