17 Gut Healthy Breakfast Ideas

It is important for everyone to think about their digestive health. Not just those who already have a food intolerance or are coeliac.

Keeping your gut healthy, even though you may not want to think about it is an important part of your wellbeing. It can be as simple as drinking a breakfast smoothie or more involving like taking the 50 foods in one week challenge. Why not start the day the right way with 17 Gut Healthy Breakfast Ideas.

Oats

Oats are a great source of fibre, they encourage good bacteria in the gut and are a good source of slow release energy. Making them the perfect base for many different breakfast ideas.

Breakfast on the run? Why not try this Seeded Apricot flapjack which is Vegan and Gluten free. You could also try baking these Oatmeal Button Biscuits or even these oat and raisin cookies which are also perfect for baby led weaning.

Personally if I have time I like to sit down to eat so I opt for my Gluten free Winter granola (which can also be made into Granola bars) or my Gluten free Muesli.

Bananas

Bananas are a great source of natural energy. They are also prebiotics which help your guts intestinal flora. They can also help to cut bloating.

The quickest and easiest way to use bananas for breakfast has to be in a smoothie. My favourites by far are the Pink Banana Smoothie and the Banana and apricot smoothie. If I have a collection of blackening bananas, i tend to bake with them. For weekend treats why not make the delicious Banana cacao crunch tray bake.

Apples

Apples are a great source of fibre, vitamin c and natural antioxidants. They also carry lots of great gut friendly bacteria. Making them a great choice for a gut healthy breakfast ingredient.

Go for the classic combination of  Apple and Cinnamon with these muffins.

Flax seed

Can increase your guts good bacteria helping to optimise your gut health. They are also a great substitute for eggs if you have to avoid them or are wanting to eat a vegan diet.

Matcha

Matcha contains high levels of easily absorbed digestible fibre along with polyphenols which are antioxidants. Helping to reduce inflammation of the bowel. You could opt for a Healthy Matcha and Banana Smoothie Bowl for a beautiful breakfast.
