30 Gut healthy snacks (gluten free)

Do you think about your digestive health? As a coeliac its on my mind more than most. But keeping your gut healthy is an important part of your wellbeing. Looking after it can be as simple as drinking a choosing a good breakfast or more involving like taking the 50 foods in one week challenge. Why not make your life easy with these 30 Gut healthy snacks which are also gluten free.

Ginger

Improves digestion by stimulating hydrochloric acid which helps digest proteins. I also swear by ginger for calming nausea, but it can be a bit much for some people.

If you like cake, you really must try my Banana and ginger tray bake recipe, the Banana ginger Parkin recipe and Chocolate and Ginger Cupcakes.

Or if you want biscuits – go for classics like Ginger bread people, Ginger cookies and Ginger biscuits recipes.

Bananas

Bananas are a great source of natural energy. They are also prebiotics which help your guts intestinal flora. They can also help to cut bloating.

Snacks can also be no cook. If you’re really in a hurry why not pick up a smoothie. My favourites by far are the Pink Banana Smoothie and the Banana and apricot smoothie.

But if you’ve got lots of blackening bananas, baking is the best option. For weekend treats why not make one of these delicious tray bakes –

Apples

Apples are a great source of fibre, vitamin c and natural antioxidants. They also carry lots of great gut friendly bacteria. Making them a great choice for a gut healthy snack on their own or to add into other dishes.

Oats

Oats are a great source of fibre, they encourage good bacteria in the gut and are a good source of slow release energy. Making them the perfect base for many different snacking options.

Almonds

Flax seed

Flax seed Can increase your guts good bacteria helping to optimise your gut health. They are also a great substitute for eggs if you have to avoid them or are wanting to eat a vegan diet.

Matcha

Matcha contains high levels of easily absorbed digestible fibre along with polyphenols which are antioxidants. Helping to reduce inflammation of the bowel. Why not try my Matcha muffins today.
