Chill out
Use your backyard as an extension to your house. Encourage the family to leave the screens indoors and enjoy the fresh air. Do this, by making a comfortable inviting place. Pitch a tee-pee, or just drag out a rug and plenty of cushions.

Plant up
I love having plants in pots in my garden. It’s gives the opportunity to move them around, group them together. Or fill in gaps when other seasonal plants die back.
I am a big fan of cacti and succulents. They are so easy to grow, as long as they have good drainage. Plus once you learn how to take cuttings, you amass a big collection, for a fraction of the cost.

Light up
There is really something magical about sitting out on a warm night with twinkling lights above you in your back yard. They are very reasonably priced these days to pick up. Plus LED lights are so inexpensive to run and better for the environment.
