7 ways to reduce your plastic use

Welcome to my eco-conscious journey towards a more sustainable future! Plastic pollution has become a pressing global issue, affecting our oceans, wildlife, and even our own health. The alarming rate at which plastic waste accumulates in our landfills and oceans calls for immediate action. I have seven practical and achievable ways to reduce your plastic use, making a positive impact on the environment.

Join me as we embark on this empowering voyage towards reducing plastic waste and embracing a greener, cleaner world. Let’s make a difference, one step at a time!

Don’t miss the zero waste challenge to take part in with a handy checklist at the bottom of the post.

1. Grab a bag for life

This is probably the one thing we are best at in this country in terms of ditching the plastic. Yet I know even sometimes I forget my bags and have to stump up the money for plastic ones. Which I know will then sit in a pile under my stairs.

Make sure you never forget your bags for life by picking up some fantastic design ones and having a clip on one for your bag. Then you’ll never forget

2. Carry a coffee cup

Pick up a re-usable bamboo coffee cup and stop throwing disposable ones in the bin. Coffee shops are happy to fill your cup with coffee and you’ll never have yours taken by mistake again.

I love this retro design daisy coffee mug. Complete with lid for £2.99 it’s perfect for the commute.  Made from recyclable bamboo it’s strong and is dishwasher safe too.

3. Switch to wax

When we decided to reduce our plastic use. The one thing I couldn’t imagine being without was cling film. It is unbelievably handy and when you cook a lot you tend to use it a lot.

It was only this past Christmas that I discovered bees wax wraps and they are such a great alternative.

They are washable, reusable and compostable. Made from 100% cotton and treated with bees wax. They are so handy for wrapping up cheese or covering dishes. Simply warm it in your hands to meld it over the dish.

4. Carry a re-usable water-bottle

I hate it when I see so many plastic bottles in the bin.

Buy Stainless steel reusable water bottle

5. Stop the straws

This was a massive problem for us, but making the switch was so easy!

Buy stainless steel straws   Buy bamboo straws

6. Buy re-usable or organic cotton sanitary wear

I’m a keen user and champion of plastic free period wear and have written a few posts on the topic.

7. Swap to a bamboo toothbrush

Weirdly I had never even thought of all the plastic toothbrushes I must have thrown in the tip before I tried a Bamboo toothbrush.

The toothbrushes are well shaped and comfortable on my teeth and gums. They are lovely and lightweight perfect for popping in a travel bag for holidays.

Did you also know that bamboo is naturally antibacterial and once used up the bamboo handle can go in your compost bin because it’s biodegradable.

Don’t forget to Pin it for later!
