I am a much more conscious consumer these days and try to make sustainable choices when shopping. So I was pleased when asked to review these Reusable Sanitary Pads from Trade to aid. Lets see if they are the best in the UK.
There is much more spoken about having a healthy period these days. Both for you and the environment. I wish I had access to a wider range of products when I was first starting my period.
What are Reusable Sanitary Pads?
They are an alternative to disposable sanitary pads that you would pick up from the supermarket. They are made from bamboo charcoal and recycled plastic fabric and you pop them in the wash once used.
For years disposable plastic pads, were my only option. I was horrified when I thought back over how many of them I must have used and have since ended up in landfill.
Who are Trade to aid?
Trade to aid are a non profit social business. They produce eco friendly, sustainable, ethical sanitary pads. They help support women across the world get access to sanitary kits and menstrual health programmes.
How to use Reusable Sanitary Pads
In the box I got six pads, two heavy flow, two medium flow and two light flow, plus a waterproof wet bag.
You use them in exactly the the same way you would disposable ones. They have wings, and unlike plastic pads, no sticky bits that can pull out your pubes! Instead they fasten with a popper.
Once you’ve used them, soak for 30 minutes and simply pop them in the wash. If you’re out and about. Fold them in on them themselves, pop them together and pop in the wash bag.
When home, give them a soak and chuck them in the machine.
Are reusable sanitary pads good?
The main reason I choose reusable is I don’t want to contribute to the huge pile of plastic waste created from period products.
If I’d been offered these from my teens I would have drastically reduced the amount of waste I have created.
I also find them more comfortable, no more mishaps with sticky wings. No more chaffing. They are absorbent and deal with my heavy flow.
They don’t smell, are easy to care for and mean I always have access to pads when I have an unexpected visitor.
Every mum should get their daughter a box when they are starting their period.
