Egg Art Review

Eggs are not just for Easter you know. I’ve been inspired to look at my baking staple again in a whole new light. Thanks to being asked to review the book. Egg Art published by Search Press.

It’s a beautifully photographed and well laid out book. With so many beautiful egg designs I couldn’t wait to get started.

How to get started

If you are like me and are so impatient to get started there are a couple of designs you can create using marker pens. Otherwise you will need to get some basic tools and equipment to create the more complex designs.

Like dye, wax and a stylus pen.

These are few designs I created simply using marker pens inspired by the designs from the book.

What I found out

That I have a really shaky hand – if you want to create the more intricate designs you’ll need to practice to get a steady hand.

That blowing eggs seems to take a lot more effort than I remember as a child. Perhaps I have less puff these days

Finding white eggs in the UK is tricky. Why do we prefer brown over white? If anyone knows a reliable stockist of white eggs, let me know in the comments below.

Top Tips

  • Be inspired by the book, but know that you don’t have to follow the projects exactly.
  • Have patience – sourcing the decorative materials and white eggs means you may have to wait to create your project.
  • Practice. Don’t expect to be a master like Katya straight away.

Final thoughts

I love books like this as a source of inspiration, to flick through from time to time. Sparking my creativity.

I am looking forward to developing my egg decorating technique and I can’t wait to make some of the projects that showcase my newly learnt techniques.

A great resource for my craft room. If you fancy winning a copy, don’t miss the chance to enter my fab giveaway.
