DIY Daffodil Suncatcher: A St. David’s Day Craft for Kids
As the cheerful blooms of daffodils signal the arrival of spring, why not capture their essence in a delightful craft project? This DIY Daffodil Suncatcher is not only a fun activity for kids but also a perfect way to celebrate St. David’s Day. With a few simple materials, you can bring the beauty of these vibrant flowers into your home.
Plus, I’ve included a choice of a free download SVG file for Cricut machines or printable PDF template to cut out.

Materials Needed:
- Free download SVG file or Free printable PDF template (link provided at the bottom of the post)
- Colored tissue paper
- Contact paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Hole punch (optional)
- String or ribbon (optional)

Instructions:
- Prepare Your Materials: Start by gathering all the materials you’ll need for this project. Print out the PDF template or download the SVG file for your Cricut machine.
- Cut Out the Template: Use scissors to carefully cut out the daffodil shapes from the template. If you’re using a Cricut machine, upload the SVG file and follow the machine’s instructions to cut out the shapes.
- Prepare Tissue Paper: Cut out the tissue paper shapes or tear for fuzzy edges
- Apply Contact Paper: Cut a piece of contact paper slightly larger than your daffodil shapes. Peel off the backing and lay it sticky side up on a flat surface. Arrange the tissue paper cut-outs on the sticky side of the contact paper, creating a colourful mosaic. Then lay your daffodil shape on top. Alternatively if you want a more ordered arrangement to the tissue paper, place the daffodil on first and add the tissue paper to fill the gaps.
- Add Another Layer of Contact Paper: Once the tissue paper pieces are in place, carefully place another piece of contact paper over the top, sticky side down. Press down firmly to seal the tissue paper between the two layers of contact paper.
- Cut Out the Suncatchers: Use scissors to trim around the edges of the daffodil shapes, cutting through both layers of contact paper. If desired, use a hole punch to create a hole at the top of each suncatcher for hanging.
- Display and Enjoy: You can attach a piece of string or ribbon through the hole at the top of each suncatcher, then hang them in a sunny window. Or simply place in the window. Watch as the sunlight filters through the colourful tissue paper, casting a beautiful glow and bringing the sunshine indoors.
