Review: HYSapientia 22L Digital Dual Zone Air Fryer Oven

I know I am very late to the air fryer party, but with an electric oven and an Aga at home I did wonder whether I did really need another way of cooking in my kitchen. So when I was asked to review the HYSapientia 22L Digital Dual Zone Air Fryer I thought it might be novel at first and then simply gather dust. But I was wrong, read on to find out why.

What is an air fryer?

Air fryers aren’t actually fryers. They are more like a enhanced oven with a powerful fan that makes food cook quicker and with crispy results. Hence you get ‘fried’ style without the addition of lots of fat.

First impressions

The only air fryers I had seen before were small appliances with a single ‘bucket’ that came out the front. This was completely different. For a start it was much larger than I was expecting and heavier! Especially when the delivery left it at the top of my drive.

Once opened you could see why, it has much more capacity than any of those other brands I had seen before and it offers much more functionality. With options for segmented cooking of use of the whole compartment. It also had a wide range of different cooking style, not just air frying. You can use the pre-sets, for baking, broiling, toasting, and even a rotisserie function for a whole chicken!

Cooking with the HYSapientia air fryer oven

So far I’ve used it to air fry chips, hard boil eggs, make the most excellent cheese on toast, heat up left overs and cook hash browns. All of these have been delicious and I can’t wait to cook more in it.

Some of the functions I probably wont get much use out of, but what I do really love about it. Is the fact that I can heat up small portions when I’m at home working alone, but also use it for the whole family.

I have noticed that is is much cheaper to run than putting on our Smeg oven and these days we are really keeping a close eye on the price of power.

Cleaning

I have previously bought kitchen ‘gadgets’ that have claimed to save me time in the kitchen but then I have spent hours trying to clean of the fiddly parts. Not so with this one, all the sections slide out easily and can be popped in the dishwasher and then the oven simply gets wiped out. It’s easily accessible with it being on the counter top too.

Drawbacks

With any review I want to be honest about all my opinions good or bad and there were two niggles I have with the HYSapientia air fryer oven.

  1. it is quite big, so if you’re lacking in counter space you need to considre this.
  2. The fan is a bit loud. Luckily I had space for it in my utility room so I dont have to hear it.

Final thoughts?

So will I still use it? The simple answer is yes! It’s not going to gather dust in the corner of my kitchen as it’s become a really handy, cheap to run and clean kitchen appliance. I’m looking forward to learning more about how to bake with it and can’t wait to share some of my air fryer recipes with you all on my food site eatcartwright.
