Stitchable Bookmark – Free SVG Template

For all the book lovers and craft enthusiasts out there, I have a delightful project that combines your passion for cutting machines and needle crafts. Stitchable wooden bookmarks are not only functional but also a fantastic way to add a personal touch to marking your page. I’ll guide you through creating your very own stitchable wooden bookmark using a free SVG template. So, gather your materials and let’s embark on this fun and rewarding journey.

Materials You’ll Need

Before we dive into the creative process, let’s ensure you have all the necessary materials:

  1. Thin plywood or thick cardboard: You can find these at your local craft store or order online
  2. Free SVG Template: You can download it at the bottom of this post
  3. Embroidery Floss: Choose your favorite colors to match your design.
  4. Embroidery Needle: Make sure it’s the correct size for your hole
  5. Scissors: To cut the floss and trim any excess.
  6. Cricut machine or laser cutter: to cut out the design. Don’t worry if you dont have these, you can download the design and print out as a template to pierce the holes in card instead

Design and Preparation

  1. Download the file: A simple click to download the free svg, you may need to pop your email address in if you have never signed up for my exclusive content before.
  2. Upload the Design: Add the design to your design space and size to suit your needs and cut.

Stitching Process

Now comes the fun part: stitching your wooden bookmark.

  1. Thread Your Needle: Cut a length of embroidery floss and thread your needle. Make sure to use the loop method to secure the thread as this gives a neater finish on the back
  2. Start Stitching: Begin by inserting the needle through the back of the wood, bringing it to the front. Follow your design, going in and out of the wood as needed. Be patient and take your time, as wooden bookmarks are different to stitch than fabric.
  3. Change Colors: If your design requires multiple colors, simply thread the loose end of the first color under a few stitches at the back and cut neatly. Then start with the next.
  4. Finishing Touches: Once you’ve completed your design, secure the thread at the back and trim any excess. You can then add a plaited cord from the bottom central hole or an embellish beaded ribbon.

  1. I have been using a lot of your free patterns for doing cross stitch. Now I want to try this stitchable bookmark free svg template, but I have an important question. I really don’t understand what is an SVG. It does sound like you need a fancy machine of some kind, but I don’t have anything like that. How else can I put holes in the cardboard so it looks professional? Thanks for anyones help

    1. I use the svg file if for use with a cutting machine. But you could make holes in cardboard using a single hole punch or a bradle. Or you can purchase stitchable bookmarks from etsy. Here’s a link https://tidd.ly/3ulkeMN
