Choosing the right fabric for cross stitch and embroidery
Different fabrics have different advantages and disadvantages. Choosing the right fabric for your project is important to achieve a perfect finish.
Fabrics are categorized by the way it is woven, its weight and its texture. For example, fabrics with a tight weave are more durable than those with a loose weave, making them ideal for embroidery. Fabrics with a regular looser weave like aida and linen are ideal for cross stitch where you work across the warp and weft.

Choosing your embroidery needle and thread
Embroidery needles come in a variety of styles, sizes, and materials. It is important to have the right needle for the type of fabric you are sewing with and for what kind of embroidery you are trying to do.
If you are looking to cross stitch, then it is best to use a blunt needle that has a large eye-hole and slightly curved point. This helps with an easy glide through the fabric and prevents the thread from tangling in the eye-hole. If you want to stitch backstitch or French knots, it’s better to have a finer sharp point needle.
