I have recently been making lots of props for our vintage Caravan photo booth and one thing I had really wanted to include was a date board. I had looked around and nothing really fitted the look I was going for. So I thought I would attempt to make one. It was so much easier than I thought So I’ve made a quick DIY date board tutorial.
For the diy date board you will need:
- A frame with the glass removed but the backing board remaining.
- Some fabric to cover the board
- Fabric scissors
- Metal Numbers (I got mine from Door Furniture Direct)
- Two Butttons
- Panel pins (small nails)
First remove the glass from the frame and take out the backing board.
Lay the backing board on the fabric and cut around the board leaving a 2cm boarder.
Trim the corners so the fabric will fold neatly around.
Push the board back into the frame and pull the fabric tight.
If the board isn’t a snug fit in the frame, you may need to glue the fabric to stop it from bagging.
Then secure the board.
Turn over and check for any wrinkles, tugging or gluing the fabric where necessary.
Lay out the numbers and the two buttons, so you are happy with the arrangement.
Glue the buttons in place as markers between the day, month and year.
Then hammer in panel pins for the bronze numbers to hang from. Make sure they are at a slight angle upwards so they wont slip off. If you are intending for people to hold the frame.
Check you are happy with the final arrangement. Then either hang or prop up your date board.
We will use ours in our photos, especially for weddings.
What do you think? How would you personalise yours?
The possibilities are endless, with different frames, fabrics and number to choose from.
