DIY felt holly garland
I have decided to decorate this year with as many handmade decorations as I can. One of my favourite materials to work with is felt. And what is a more classic Christmas symbol then holly! Here’s how to make my DIY felt holly leaf garland.

Materials Needed:

- Green felt sheets
- Red felted balls or pom poms
- Scissors (or a Cricut or laser cutter)
- Needle
- Embroidery thread in green
- Pencil or fabric marker
- Free Holly Leaf Template (Download at the bottom of this post)
Instructions:
Prepare Your Materials:
Gather all the materials you’ll need for this project. Ensure that you have enough felt sheets in green (you can use a variety of shades), as well as a pair of sharp scissors. Additionally, get or make small red felted balls or pom poms.
Download the Free Template:
Visit the bottom of this post to download the free holly leaf template. Print it out or use it as a guide to draw your own holly leaf shapes on a piece of paper. (alternatively if you have a cricut or laser cutter, download the free svg and upload to your design space to cut)
Trace and Cut Holly Leaves:
Place the holly leaf template on the green felt sheet. Using a pencil or fabric marker, trace around the template. Repeat this step until you have traced and marked enough holly leaves for your garland. Carefully cut out each holly leaf along the traced lines.
Assemble Holly Leaves and Pom Poms:
Alternate the holly leaves and red felt berries. I tried to mix up the different shade of green leaves for a more natural look, rather than going for a pattern.
Thread the Leaves and Pom Poms:
Thread a sharp needle with your thread. Starting with a holly leaf, carefully pass the needle through the middle of the leaf using a running stitch.

Follow this with a pom pom, then another leaf, and so on. Continue until you’ve threaded all the leaves and pom poms onto the thread, creating a holly and pom pom garland.

Secure the Garland Ends:
Make a loop over your hand and tie a knot at each end of the thread to secure the leaves and pom poms in place. Make sure the knots are tight and trim any excess thread.

Hang and Enjoy:
Hang your delightful felt holly leaf and pom pom garland in your desired location.

It could be draped over a mantelpiece, wrapped around a banister, hung on the tree or used as a festive decoration anywhere in your home.
