Create your own festive felt stockings (Free Template)
These festive felt stockings are quick and easy to make. Use them for tree decorations, cutlery holders on your Christmas table for add a small gift for a fun secret Santa idea! I’ll guide you through the process of crafting your own festive stockings using my free template and give you some ideas of how to decorate. Gather your crafting supplies and let’s get started on this delightful DIY project.

Materials Needed:
- Felt fabric in assorted festive colours
- Free felt stockings template (download link provided below)
- Fabric scissors (or cricut or laser cutter)
- Sewing needles and thread in matching or coordinating colours
- Ribbon or twine for hanging
- Embellishments like sequins, buttons, beads or HTV (optional)
- Fabric glue (optional)
Step 1: Gather Your Supplies
Before diving into the crafting process, make sure you have all your materials organized. Lay out your felt fabric, scissors, sewing needles, and any embellishments you plan to use.
Step 2: Cut Out the Stocking Pieces
Print and cut out the PDF free felt stockings template. (or upload the SVG to your design space for your cutting machine). Place the template onto your chosen felt colours and carefully cut out the corresponding pieces. You should have two mirror-image pieces for each stocking.

Step 3: Sew the Stocking Pieces Together
Take one of the stocking pieces and align it with the other, ensuring that the edges match. Thread your needle with a colour that complements the felt, and start sewing along the edges. Use a simple blanket stitch to secure the pieces together, leaving the top open. If you want to make them quicker, use a straight stitch on a sewing machine in a matching colour.
Top tip!
Mark to lines on your finger as a guide for evenly spaced blanket stitches.

Step 4: Add Personal Touches
This is where you can get creative! Consider adding sequins, buttons, beads, bows or a name using HTV to embellish your stockings. You can create patterns or designs that reflect your personal style or the recipient’s preferences.

Step 5: Attach the Hanging Loop
Cut a piece of ribbon or twine to your desired length for hanging. Fold it into a loop and securely attach it to the inside of the stocking at the back seam. This will serve as the stocking’s hanger.
You could also use these as cutlery holders or place settings on your Christmas table.
Step 6: Finish and Display
Once you’ve added all your desired embellishments and the hanging loop is securely attached, your festive felt stocking is ready!
