Let's face it the garden is the place to be this summer. I'm hoping it's a good one with plenty of sunshine. So I don't miss the annual villa break to Spain. This year we are going to take our enjoyment of the garden one step further.

Giant may be a little of an exaggeration, but these are intended to be large. The type of cushion that invites you to sprawl on. Whether that is in the playroom or hanging out on the lawn.

I have tried to keep them as simple as possible and therefore I've made them envelope style. Rather than adding in a zip. It means they are easy to take on and off and I didn't have to wait to buy a zip!

Materials for giant floor cushions

To make the giant floor cushions you will need:

Instructions

  1. First measure your cushion pad. For the width of the cushion add 3 cm for a seam allowance, so 66 cm for a 63 cm cushion. For the length, double this width and add 10 cm to allow for the envelope overlap, so 136 cm.
  2. Then mark out and cut your fabric to the measurements.
  3. At the two short ends, which will be the opening. Stitch a double seam.
  4. To do this, fold 1.5cm over, press flat and fold 1.5cm again.
  5. Press, pin and stitch in place.
  6. Repeat with the other end.
  7. Now with right sides together, fold the ends over to create the cover. Making sure to check the overlap measurement.
  8. Pin in place and stitch the two edges using a 1.5 cm seam allowance.
  9. Remove pins, turn the right way round and ease the corners into shape with the end of your scissors.
  10. Insert the cushion pad and enjoy.

Don't forget to Pin it for later!
