I worry about my teeth a lot more now than I ever did. When I was a teenager I couldn’t care less, but now I’m in my late thirties I obsess over my teeth and gum health. I am terrified of loosing my teeth and I regularly wish they were straighter and whiter.

So if you are like me and want to get the most from your smile here are 15 simple dental tips and tricks. Plus I’ve got a great giveaway to win a Glo32 kit to give you an amazing smile.

Invest in a sonic tooth brush

A Sonic toothbrush can seem like a pricey option, but they are worth it. Love that really clean feeling after going to the dentist? You have that every day with one of these.

‘Don’t over brush. I always used to brush my teeth too hard which damages the enamel and gums. Switching to an electric toothbrush definitely had helped!’

Floss twice a day

Flossing twice a day helps so much more than just Brushing’

‘When I was dental nursing the dentist would tell patients

“only floss the teeth you want to keep”

I’m a religious flosser!’

Use a mouth wash

Mouth wash really helps clean between the teeth where your brush can’t reach. It also helps maintain the health of your whole mouth and keeps your breath fresh.

Rinse after eating

‘Drink water after eating acidic fruits as the acid is damaging to teeth and some citrus fruits can cause teeth to yellow. Don’t stop eating them as they are good for you, but drink water to rinse your teeth after eating.’

Avoid carbonated drinks

People often blame sugar solely for the damage to their teeth but carbonation helps accelerate the damage. So steer clear of pop all together.

Limit sugar intake

I was asked recently by my dentist if my sugar intake was low, moderate or high. I felt bad for saying moderate and I will be cutting back on sugar from now on.

Monitor gum health

Keep an eye on the colour and shape of your gums. Warning signs are the points between teeth pulling back and spitting blood after brushing.

Visit the dentist regularly

Care for your lips

Don’t neglect your lips when your teeth are dazzling. Keep them looking their best with a moisturising Lip balm

Watch out for warning signs

Spots on your tongue, ulcers and bleeding are signs that must not be ignored and should be discussed with your dentist.

Protect your teeth

If you are playing sports you really should wear a Teeth and gum shield

If you are prone to grinding your teeth then you should consider wearing a Mouth guard at night.

Keep up the good work

Use fluoride toothpaste

Make sure your toothpaste has the right level of fluoride in it. I currently use Oral B pro-expert

Gentle whitening

Teeth not as white as you’d like? I’ve been told off about my black tea drinking. So I’ll grab some Teeth whitening strips from Glo32 to gently get back to a whiter smile.

Change your brush

Your toothbrush should be changed every three months. Cut back on your plastic waste and stop contributing to landfill by switching to a Bamboo brush like The Humble Brush

“The bamboo is cultivated for between three to five years, and then harvested. It re-generates itself naturally, with minimal rain and without the need for harmful pesticides. The Humble Brush is the eco-friendly and sustainable choice.” Dentist and founder of The Humble Co. Noel Abdayem

Clean your brush

Make sure you rinse your brush to avoid bacteria growth and keep it well away from where the toilet is in your bathroom.

Other things you could try

‘Oil pulling with coconut oil daily or every other day.’
