Have a Plastic Free Period with Modibodi

Every Tuesday when our recycling is collected I am horrified at the amount that fills our bin. It’s great that we are recycling so much more than we used to, but recently we have been looking at ways to reduce our plastic use. This month I tried having a plastic free period.

When the kids were younger, we tried the cloth nappies but just didn’t get on with them. So we opted for biodegradable disposables. Doing our bit for the environment was our thinking. At the time I didn’t even consider all the plastics I had thrown into landfill over the years every month.

Recently there has been somewhat of a period revelation, with lots more innovative, environmentally friendly products coming on to the market. So I was excited when I got the opportunity to try ModiBodi. Which are period knickers.

How to have a plastic free period

They work by basically having a inbuilt pad (rather than a separate sanitary pad) in your knickers, which soaks up the blood. Wicks it away from your skin and keeps you fresh all day. Then at the end of the day, you rinse them and stick them in a cold wash. Line dry them and you’re good to go.

No more pads or tampons going to land fill.

I was so impressed with them. They are a game changer as far as I am concerned and I would recommend them to anyone. They look like normal knickers (unlike my normal ugly pants I wear when it’s the time of the month) and they were comfortable and clean feeling all day long.

At around £20.00 a pair you may think they are too expensive. But after looking at what I’d spent over the 27 years I’ve been buying period products, they are much more cost effective.

I just I found them sooner.

They also produce Maternity and breast feeding wear. Which I would have loved when mine wear babies. It would have avoided so many leaky boob embarrassments. Up until the end of the month, Modibodi will be donating a percentage of the sales of the breast feeding singlets to PANDAS. A Charity that supports those with post natal depression.
