Project one – cross stitch card

Love is not always an easy thing to measure but Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare create some great ways of trying to describe it. I took inspiration from the sweet illustrations and designed a pair of hares with the phrase I love you, for this simple cross stitch pattern.

Creating a colour pallet to mimic the watercolour illustrations. I then used a simple border and flower motifs to finish it off.
Fringe the edges and use double sided tape to make into a greetings card. Alternatively frame in a hoop and hang in the nursery.
Project two – keepsake box
The heart-warming tale ends with Big Nutbrown hare telling Little Nutbrown Hare that he will love him right up to the moon – AND BACK

Taking inspiration from the beautiful flowers in the book. I decided to use them and hare silhouettes for a quick and easy keepsake box.
To make the box, choose a card gift box and measure it. This will determine the size of the hare motifs
Download the free svg file and upload into Cricut design space. Adjust the shape so it matches your boxes dimensions. Cut out of any vinyl colour of your choice. I went with a golden yellow colour to compliment the chocolate brown of my box.
Weed the vinyl and use transfer tape to apply to the lid.
The perfect box to store things like the hospital bracelet, lock of hair, first tooth etc. Finish with ribbon is optional but I liked the matching colour.
Project 3 – heart decoration
It is difficult to understand how much you will love your child until they are born. Sharing this book with them is a way of expressing those big emotions. It is one we will keep in our hearts, and I hope my children will one day share it with theirs.

To make the heart decoration, download the svg file. Upload to your laser cutter to engrave it. Alternatively use it with a cutting machine such as a silhouette cameo or scan n cut and have it draw and cut the design.
I used my Mr Beam laser cutter to make the decoration. I used 1.5mm thick birch ply. Ensure the red lines are set to cut and the black to engrave. Then let the machine do the work.
Finally add a ribbon to hang it. I chose a green to complement all the wonderful colours of nature depicted in Guess how Much I love you.
