How to decorate your spare bedroom
When you are decorating your house you typically prioritise the more well-travelled areas of the home such as the living room or the kitchen, while your spare room is very often left neglected. It can be hard to decide how you want to go about decorating a room that is probably rarely in use and you do not want to spend a huge amount of money on it. If you do not want to buy an entire new set of furniture or renovate your spare room, here are some tips on low-cost ways to can turn your guest bedroom into an entirely new space.

1. Artwork or prints
To start with, you should consider how you are going to decorate the walls and think about hanging up some artwork. A simple image can bring life into the room and make it seem a little less sterile, making it homier for your visitors. Check out these canvas prints from hellocanvas where you can print some family photos or pictures of a beloved pet to make the space more personalised to you.
2. Shelves
Even if you often have guests over to stay, you can still utilise this space for a bit of extra storage. Shelving units or bookcases are a great addition to a spare room because they act as both a décor item as well as holding your book collection with the option of providing your visitors with a bit of entertainment before bed. If you really want to tailor the experience to your guest you can install a stylish magazine rack and fill it with magazines that might pique their interest, or simply leave a standard selection in there that can be used by anyone in the house.
3. Have a décor theme.
If you are struggling to figure out the space then try to stick to a theme such as “country cottage” or “industrial”. This makes it much easier to pick out the right accessories and keep the room flowing with minimal effort. (You should also keep accessories in general to a minimum as not to overcrowd the space.) On the other end of the spectrum, you could just really let loose and fill this room with everything that you may have deemed a little too bold or bright for the living areas and just really have fun with it in a way you might not be able to elsewhere.
4. Plants, plants, plants
Plants are a décor must have! They breathe life into the dullest, unlived space and help with the flow of oxygen to prevent the room from getting too stuffy whilst it is not in use. You can also opt for fake plants if you think you might struggle to maintain real ones, a room full of dead plants is never a good look and gives the room a bit of an ominous aura. If you are a plant mom like many of us you can even turn the place into your own indoor jungle, provided they can get enough sunlight in there!
