7 Picture wall ideas (for the living room)
I love having art in my house, but over the years I have accumulated a ton of pictures, prints and paintings. When you love everyone of them but don’t know how best to showcase them. A picture wall can be just the thing.

These are seven beautiful and inspiring picture wall ideas which I have gathered for the living room. But these ideas could just as easily be transferred to a stairway or bedroom too.
Group by colour
Start by looking at the prints and paintings you have. Can you see a strong colour coming through? In light filled rooms, why not try using cooler tones as your theme.
In darker rooms use warmer tones in your images. Look for golden and red hues to bring a warm and cosy feel to a accent wall.

Play with orientation
Try and avoid creating lines of negative space if you use this idea. Stagger the frames and break up the wall with a mixture of horizontal and vertical frames.
Don’t line them all up, this style should be playful. Just keep them all level. No one likes a wonky frame!

Have a strong theme
If you love a certain topic and your art seems to reflect that. Be proud to make a bold statement with it.
If you can’t see a theme straight away, perhaps group prints and photos by landscape, figurative or black and white as a starting point.

Don’t hang about
Love your art work, but don’t want to ruin a pristine wall you’ve just painted. Why not just display them propped against it. Like this beautiful one of a kind Suminagashi A2 print by www.natmaks.com £55.00

Great for larger prints and if you like to change your viewing material regularly.

Odd numbers
At all costs try and avoid hanging pictures in even numbers. Visually appealing things are almost always in odd numbers.
Like this group of prints which takes it to another level with odds in both directions.

How to mount
Not all pictures need to be hung from a picture hook or nail. I love this idea of a hanging bar with clips to attach the art work.
It’s gives flexibility to change the order of your art and you can freshen it up easily.

Create texture
Finally, think about texture when you are creating your picture wall. Not just about colour and your theme but how you can make it more of a sensory experience by adding texture.
I love this idea which combines, prints, photos, maps and slogan t shirts. A great way to capture a memory of an event or trip.

Don’t forget to Pin it for later!
