If you’re on the lookout for a new project, you’re in luck. I’ve designed a free sled cross-stitch pattern that’s both charming and easy to follow. Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or a beginner looking to try your hand at a new hobby for Christmas, this pattern is perfect for you. *Now updated – choose between charts with or without backstitch.

Materials Needed:

Aida cloth (14-count recommended)
Embroidery floss in various colours (DMC thread suggested)
Embroidery needle
Embroidery hoop (optional)
Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: Download the Pattern

Head to the bottom of this post to download the free sled cross-stitch pattern in PDF format. Print it out to have a copy to work with.

Step 2: Prepare Your Materials

Gather all the materials listed above to ensure you have everything you need before starting.

Step 3: Begin Stitching

Place the Aida cloth in your embroidery hoop if you’re using one. Start by threading your needle with the chosen colour of embroidery floss. Refer to the pattern and begin stitching following the centre markers on the grid.

Step 4: Switching Colours

As you progress through the pattern, you’ll need to switch colours. Secure the end of the current floss colour by pushing the needle though the back of a few stitches and trimming the end. Start a new one by using a single strand of floss, doubled to make a loop to secure the starting stitch.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once you’ve completed the entire pattern, secure the ends of your floss on the backside of the Aida cloth. Trim any excess thread with your scissors.

Step 6: Display Your Art

Frame your finished cross-stitch in a hoop or a frame of your choice, or turn it into a unique piece of home décor. Check out my 35 Alternatives to framing cross stitch for some different ideas.
