Colouring

Not just for children. Colouring has helped me a lot to unwind in the evenings. Getting lost in the patterns and colours is a great way to relax. There are no right or wrong ways to do it.

You can even grab some free printable colouring pages. So you can start tonight.

Other crafty hobbies I have found relaxing are cross stitch and embroidery. Which can be easily started will the minimum of materials or skills needed.

Reading

There is nothing better than getting lost in a good book. I’ve have to remind myself of how wonderful it makes me feel when I indulge my passion for reading on holiday.

Making sure that I take time to pick up my book and read for at least 10 minutes a day has had real benefits.

My current favourite reads have been Eleanor Oliphant is Completely FineAmerican Gods and Night Shift

Crafts

I have long been a believer in crafts as a way to unwind, whether it’s cross stitch, paper crafts or even knitting. Getting lost in repeating processes, like stitching small crosses or cutting shapes or counting stitches. Helps my mind to decompress.

Walking

I walk a lot for the school run etc. But walking for relaxation is different. My sister in law and I have taken up walking on Wednesday evenings.

We walk for an hour, enjoying the cool night air and taking the time to blow off steam about our weeks. It’s a great way to get rid of stress and I often come home with a new energy for the rest of the week ahead.

Yoga

I really should do more of it. Not only for my wobbly belly but for the opportunity to focus on my breathing. Think about how my body is feeling and take a moment to do something purely for my benefit.

We often put our needs of our bodies and mental health further down the list than they should be. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is not a big ask.

Napping

Power napping can be a great tool to recharge your batteries and feel more relaxed. According to the Simba article: The art of napping: How to make the most of your daytime snooze. A power nap should be between 10-20 minutes and should be situated in the early afternoon to get the most benefit.

Bath time

In our busy lives we come to using the shower as the go to way to get clean. In and out in less than five minutes.

So bath time is not about getting clean, but having a decadent evening to yourself. Pour in half a bottle of bubbles.

Have a glass of wine or a mug of tea. Let yourself truly soak. Invest in a lock for your door too, if you really want to preserve your peace.

I do try to relax, though do feel that I do need some more opportunities to do so. Many of us may feel that there are not enough minutes in the day, how often that feeling occurs may vary.

I enjoy knitting, watching films (oh! How I wish that afternoon films could be always relaxing, funny, or cheerful, etc in theme. As this can aid relaxation. Thrillers, etc :- Surely are for the evening, when young children would be settling / settled to sleep).

It is getting the opportunity to relax without interruption/s, distraction/s, unwanted noise, etc :- Which I seek. We have had building work within the property, as well as nearby recently. Peace and Quiet would be Bliss!
