How to make pencil bobbins with Mr Beam II dreamcut
I love all crafts, it has to be said but I love it especially when I can combine different ones. If like me you’re a fan of crafting or sewing, you know how essential it is to keep your supplies organized. My Pencil bobbins are handy fun tools for managing threads and ribbons, ensuring they remain tangle-free and easily accessible during your projects. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create the pencil bobbins using my Mr Beam II Dreamcut laser cutter. This versatile machine makes precision cutting a breeze, allowing you to craft professional-quality bobbins quickly and efficiently.

Materials Needed:
- Plywood sheets (preferably 3mm thick)
- Mr Beam II Dreamcut laser cutter
- Pencil bobbin design template (available free at the bottom of this post)
- Optional: Sandpaper for smoothing edges
Step 1: download the svg file
Head to the bottom of this post to download the free svg file for the pencil bobbins. Then upload it to Mr Beams design space. There is no need to resize unless you want miniature bobbins.

Step 2: Prepare the Plywood Sheets
Once you have your design ready, it’s time to prepare the plywood sheets for cutting. Place a sheet of plywood onto the bed of the Mr Beam II Dreamcut and adjust the laser head to the correct height.
Step 3: Set Parameters
Adjust cutting parameters such as power, speed, and cuts based on the thickness of your plywood and the desired cutting precision.
Step 4: laser cutting
With the design loaded and parameters set, initiate the laser cutting process. The Mr Beam II Dreamcut will precisely cut out your pencil bobbin design from the plywood sheet according to your specifications. Ensure proper ventilation and safety measures are in place during the cutting process.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Once the cutting is complete, carefully remove the plywood pencil bobbins from the Mr Beam II Dreamcut. Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges or surfaces if desired. Your pencil bobbins are now ready for use!
Step 6: Fill your bobbins with thread
You don’t have to fill them in rainbow colours, but it does look good!
