Make your own wooden cross stitch pennant (+ free SVG)

Are you a laser cutter owner with a passion for cross-stitching? If so, I have an exciting project for you. Today, I’m going to guide you through the process of creating your own wooden cross stitch pennant.

What You’ll Need

To get started, you’ll need a few things:

  • A laser cutter
  • 3 mm plywood suitable for your laser cutter
  • Cross-stitching supplies (thread, needle)
  • The free downloadable SVG cut file (download at the bottom of this post)

Getting the Cut File

The first step is to get the SVG cut file. I’ve created a custom design that’s perfect for this project. It has a grid of 39 x 39 making it perfect for stitching many of my 3 inch cross stitch patterns on it. To access the file, simply sign up for my exclusive content if you haven’t done so before. Not only will you get this free cut file, but you’ll also gain access to a wealth of other resources, tips, and projects.

Cutting the Pennant

Once you’ve downloaded the SVG file, it’s time to cut your pennant. Load the file into your laser cutter’s software and adjust the size if desired and the settings as necessary for your specific machine and the type of wood you’re using. Then, let your laser cutter do its work. I cut mine using my Mr Beam Dreamcut II and their coloured plywood in blue.

Cross-Stitching Your Design

With your wooden pennant cut out, you can start cross-stitching your design. If you’re new to cross-stitching, don’t worry. It’s a simple, relaxing craft that anyone can learn. Check out my beginners guide to cross stitching if you’re in need of extra information.

Displaying Your Pennant

When you’ve finished your cross-stitching, your wooden pennant is ready to display. Hang it on a wall using the side holes to thread a loop through or set it on a shelf. No matter how you choose to use it, your wooden cross stitch pennant is sure to be a conversation starter.
